Depending on your state (I live in PA), you may have to go to a trade school for assisting. I was an assistant in high school. Now, I am a dental hygienist and in my 10 years of working, I think I have come across 1 person who actually went to school. Most dentist (around here at least) hire to train. This way, they hav ethe ability to mold you the way they want you to work and pay less becasue you don't have a degree.
