Dentist perscribed LORAZEPAM.....Serious Answers Only...?!
Question:
Dentist perscribed LORAZEPAM.....Serious Answers Only...?
I'm in the process of getting Full Dentures. I have already had my impressions done. Now it's time for extractions. My problem is that I get very upset and I cry. I dont like the dentist. I get very anxious before appointment. I cannot differentiate pain from pressure. The dentist is only able to pull 1 tooth a visit. My last visit my Blood pressure went very high (172/??) My next visit I need to take 1 tablet before bedtime and 1 more tablet 1 hour before my appointment. 1 mg. tablets. aka (Ativan)
Is this normal dose? Is this common in some patients? I have Medi-cal, Can this dentist refer me to another dentist so then I can be fully sedated for all extractions all at once? I live in California. Any info is appreciated.

This dose is not an abnormal dose. Just don't drive while taking it. I don't know if your insurance will cover sedation but it is worth calling them and asking. Ativan is a great drug for calming down anxiety and is worth a try. While I work in a hospital I give plenty of my patients ativan. I've seen it given 2 mg every 4-6 hours so you are not even close to max doses- the dentist probably just doesn't want to knock your socks off with it
