Dentist appt now pain is gone.....?!

Question: For a week or so I had the worst pain and swelling coming from the gums in the back of my mouth. Now that I am going to the Dentist tomorrow the pain is gone. Should I still go and explained what had happened? I am thinking I need my wisdom teeth out. But with the pain gone i don't know.

I would recommend that you still go, just to better determine what your source of pain is/was. For wisdom teeth that are just erupting, they may develop something called pericoronitis, which is swelling around the crown of the tooth. That does go away with proper hygeine and brushing, but if your wisdom tooth are coming in at a funky angle, extracting it may be the best option.

The other thing this may be is that you had an abcess forming, and that it was swelling. the abscess may have now found a way to drain itself. Do you feel like you have a 'popping' in that area, or have a foul/strange taste in your mouth now? If that's the case, then you may need a root canal.

X-rays and an exam by your dentist can verify what the problem is. Good luck!

I would. Rather be safe then sorry.

I would. You could be having some gum problems and those can come and go. Just explain to the dentist what is going on and let him take a look and decide what to do.

Yes, go ahead and see the dentist. Have all your wisdom teeth checked while your at it. Sometimes wisdom teeth will start to come in and hurt, then settle down again, then start hurting again...it can be a vicious cycle. Also, like what was stated by another person, the gum tissue can be infected from lack of cleaning in that area. This pain can be very intense. This pain can also reoccur because the area of your wisdom teeth is difficult to keep clean.
