I am having my wisdom teeth pulled on thursday...?!

Question: I need some advice. I am having all 4 pulled on thursday. I wont be awake for it. But on sat morning i am leaving for vacation. I dont believe they are impacted, there not causing me any pain at all. They havent even come up fully yet. But they caused a hole in my gum where food is settling, and it may cause me an infection, so I was advised to get them out. Am I able to ask for extra pain medication since I will not be able to see my dentist for about 2 weeks? Would they even give it? How much pain am I going to be in? Just some advice please.

It is very important that you follow the post op instructions. After the extractions, be sure to ice 10 minutes on and off throughout the day. You should be on a liquid diet for the next 48 hours. You should also avoid drinking through a straw, spitting, smoking, and any kind of carbonated drink for the next 48 hours. Be sure not to bend over or pick up anything heavy after the extractions, this will cause more bleeding. It's important for the clots to form nice and solid.
After 48 hours, you should eat very soft foods, such as jello, pudding, yogurt w/no fruit in it. Avoid anything with sesame seeds, big chunks of black pepper ect., ect. for a good week. By the end of the week you should lightly swish with warm saltwater to help irrigate the extraction sites and have sutures removed if any. You should continue swishing after you eat to keep the holes clean. They will close within time. Our patients receive Vicodin ES 16 tablets after having wisdoms pulled and if they follow their post op instructions they are usually fine. Be sure to let your dentist know you will be on vacation for 2 weeks. He probably wont use sutures then, or will use desolvable ones. You'll be just fine..... Have a nice vacation.

i get scared so much when i go to the dentist. im never getting my wisdom teesth pulled!!! just ask the dentist and im sure he/she will be glad to help you!!

I had mine pulled 2 at a time, first 2 was a breeze, didn't even need the pain meds afterwards. The second 2, was fine, then had to go out of the country for 2 weeks, and I ended up with dry socket. The pain was awful, I thought they were infected, couldn't eat-which absolutely sucked because we were in Germany lol, . And, I was working so couldn't take any meds stronger then ibuprofen.

Can you reschedule it to when you get back? I would if you can. That would really suck to be on vacation, and for whatever reason, it ends up being painful and you can't enjoy your vacation. As for the pain, it just depends on the person. I have a high pain tolerance, and like I said, the first round went really good. Good luck!

Depends how difficult they are to get out to what kind of pain you will get.

Usually they'll prescribe you something if necessary. If you're going on vacation taking antibiotics will avoid you getting dry socket and any problems. Pain will go after a few days of taking pain killers.

if they are all completely under the gum you might get some swelling of your cheeks for a few days. You shouldn't be in too much pain. your jaw might be a bit tender and you may have trouble opening wide for a few days. but you'll be right :)

You will be fine I Had mine out last Thursady and other than some mild discomfort I am doing great and 2 of mine where Impacted. The will give antibiotics and more than enough pain meds. I got Vicadon. I only used a few and They gave 1 refil. I used the Vicadon for the first few days. I have been using extra strength tylenol now. Enjoy your vacation
