I haven't worn my retainers in over 6 years. If I wear them again to straighten !

Question:

I haven't worn my retainers in over 6 years. If I wear them again to straighten out a tooth on my bottom jaw..

will it screw up my teeth? I thought I should wear them again. But I don't want to **** up my teeth.

I had them in for like... 9 minutes... the top fit fine but the bottom I had to push on there. When I read below I took it out... are my teeth roots going to be ruined now??

Answers:

It's probably not a good idea to try to jam those retainers back on.

Over 6 years your teeth probably has drifted quite a bit and those retainers most likely will no longer fit without significant force.

Jamming on retainers that no longer fit is BAD. It traumatizes the tooth roots and can cause inflammatory root resorption (i.e. it can destroy your tooth roots).

Go back to your orthodontist or dentist and find out what needs to be done to re-straighten your teeth.
