How soon after having a wisdom tooth pulled will the pain subside. I take motri!

Question:

How soon after having a wisdom tooth pulled will the pain subside. I take motrin at present.?

That side of my mouth wakes me up in the morning throbbing away! I don't think even motrin works too awefully well and I don't want to be a zombie on percoset. So I suffer and eat some yogurt and take motrin.

I drank coffee yesterday (3 Cups)
"Danger! Will Smith!". Won't do that again! Teeth don't quite line up the way they used too. I was using that wisdom tooth for bite but it was moving my gum line away from the other teeth in that area exposing nerve tissue at the gum line. Hopefully the gum will grow back and begin to cover the nerves again above those neighboring molars.

I am just wondering how long it takes for the pain to subside to near normal?

Answers:

ok, i work for an oral surgeon. if you are able to take Motrin and Tylenol then alternate them every 2-3 hours.

Motrin>2-3hrs<Tylenol>2-3hrs<M...
don't exceed the daily recommended dosage for each.

percocet has tylenol in it so make sure you don't double up on the tylenol.

3rd day after surgery is the peak day of swelling and discomfort. If discomfort doesn't subside after about 4-5 days this could be an indicator of "dry socket" which is a clotting issue. your doctor can pack the socket with medicated packing that will give quick relief.

Stay on the soft food diet for a while. rinse morning, evening and after meals with salt water. Hopefully your dr. gave you a syringe to help irrigate the socket with saltwater if food is getting trapped in the socket also. my office instructs to use the syringe after the 3rd day of extractions.

in all actuality you should probably contact your doctor to see if he/she has any specific instruction to give you. normally a dr. that extracts teeth should have someone on call to help.

Hope this helped and good luck!
