I had 2 non infected upper mollers pulled 4 days ago and my gums still hurt like!

Question:

I had 2 non infected upper mollers pulled 4 days ago and my gums still hurt like heck. Is this normal?

Answers:

My first question would be if the teeth were pulled surgical or non-surgical. Depending on the procedure and which method was used its going to differ on your time of recovery. Make sure you take the meds prescribed to you also. We ususally tell our patients if its non surgical about 7 days for full recovery and if it was surgical then your looking at about 10-14 I know it sounds longer than what everyone else is telling you but we gave our patients full recovery times not just pain going away time :) If the pain however is not decreasing, like someone before me said - you may have a dry socket (do you smoke, have you been drinking through a straw?) If thats the case you'll have to go back to the doctor - I've had one and let me tell you my entire jaw hurt so bad I wasn't even sleeping - I felt like someone had beaten me with a bat - it hurt to move, to breathe, to do anything! People handle pain different but if its hurting in your jaw you might want to go to the doctor. One other thing no one on here has mentioned, at the extraction site you may get little pieces of bone that work their way up through the gums - they hurt too, but are called bone spurs and completely normal you can either go to your dentist to have him remove them or wait a few days for them to work themselves out :) Good luck!
