Anybody who experienced braces on their teeth?!

Question: Soon I will have to get braces to get my jaw corrected because it pops every time I open my mouth. Well, I've been through everything with my teeth when I was little all the way up until high school. Now, I have to get braces. I am going to try and talk my dad into letting me get the clear braces for the simple fact I heard that there's is less trouble, and u don't have to deal with wire. Plus, I am a theatre major and I don't think I want to have wire in my mouth for auditions and acting and stuff. But from what somebody told me tonight, u still have to deal with the painful rubber bands. I always thought that you can attach them on and take them out whenever you eat or want to brush and floss your teeth. If you have been through the braces experience or know somebody that's been through the experience, can u help me and give me ideas on what I should do? Clear or wire?

I assume by clear you mean the invisalign ones. I had braces, but the clear brackets, and my wire was very thin, hardly noticable. Most people didn't even notice I had braces. The few who did noticed because I either told them or because I started lisping a bit when I first got them in (took a while to get used to).

I use invisalign now as my retainer, but its such a pain....my dentist told me I cant brush them with toothpaste or use mouthwash with them because the chemical damages the plastic. Have to take them off to eat, drink, etc.....I only wear them to sleep and sometimes if I'm just around the house, but frankly it sounds like too much of a hassle to have to put them on and off. And I believe you have to visit your dentist more frequently to be refitted. The clear brackets really aren't that bad.

It seems like you've already sold yourself on clear braces which are cosmetically more appealing. You just have to be able to afford them. And since you're getting them to align your jaw, there's no getting around the rubberbands.

clear braces are more appealing but they do cost extra. i got braces because my over bite waz so bad it waz hard 2 eat. i myself got the clear 1s and i would have 2 say, hardly any1 notices them. the only bad thing about clear braces is that they are slightly bigger and bulgier than regular braces giving ure lip a little more stuck out feeling or it makes it hard for u to completly close ure lips. in your situation clear would b fine if u have the money but they take a little longer 2 get used 2
