When will my new tooth crown stop being sensitive?!

Question:

When will my new tooth crown stop being sensitive?

I just got a new crown, my 1st ever. It's been a week and that area of my mouth is SOOOOOOOO sensitive to hot or cold and I've never had sensitivity before. Will this go away or am I going to eventually need a root canal?

I have good teeth, but I had braces for 2 years so I got decay under one of the brackets that I couldn't brush under.

My dentist mentioned that It was possible I could need a root canal (before I got the crown) but didn't think I needed it. The crown fits perfectly, because I have retainers that it fits right onto well. I just hate the sensitivity! Ugh. Maybe I do need a root canal? It's not infected either that I know of.

Answers:

Try sensodyne toothpaste. If that doesn't help, call your dentist.
