Saliva swallowing problem?!

Question:

Saliva swallowing problem?

I get this problem a lot of the time, usually when I'm talking to someone or when I think about and what happens is I get a build up of saliva in my mouth and I have to swallow and then it builds up again and I have to swallow again really soon after. It's really annoying and it gets worse when I'm nervous. Any ideas what it is?

But it doesnt just happen when I think about it, most of the time it happens when I'm talking to someone and I want to find a way to stop it. It makes it hard to talk when I get it cos I have to keep swallowing.

Answers:

I think you've already hit the proverbial nail on the head; you're nervous. When you're thinking about a normally automatic process, it comes under your conscious control for a while, and the mechanics of it become a temporary problem. Try NOT to think about it, and I think you'll find that you go back to the normal reflex swallowing fairly quickly.
