How long until I can get my braces out (Do ya think)???!

Question: I just got my braces put in today, and they're already driving me crazy!!! I really was not meant to have these things in my mouth...

I don't have much wrong, just a rotated tooth on the top and some crowding on the bottom. The dentist says she tells everyone 2 years because that's the standard time to have them in, but she doesn't think I'll need them that long.

Most people tell me that they didn't even think I needed braces. But anyway, from looking at the picture how long would you say I have until they come out?

2 years is a good bet. They drive you crazy now but you'll get used to them - I did. Usually what they do is take however long to get your teeth in place and then give you a retainer to keep them where they need to be.

Part of the reason it takes so long is that this first time, they most likely only put in some of the basic stuff, next time they'll replace those little colored rubber bands with different ones to pull your teeth closer together/stretch them apart, maybe give you rubber bands to straighten your jaw. . . etc. Usually the first time they don't give you all that stuff because just getting them on hurts, and these other things hurt also - but not as much if your mouth is already used to the braces.

You get used to them. By the way, yogurt and Jell-O are good for when you first get them on, as they don't really require much chewing or biting (which I'm sure you found really hurts. . . it'll hurt again when they tighten them, and when they take them off but not as bad). Also the dentist's claims about what you can and can't eat seem to be a little overkill - I found that I could eat gum, candy, and all the other stuff the dentist said would pull my braces out, without trouble (but don't be too anxious or gutsy - they can pop off).

thats a hard question to answer. my little brother had REALLY crooked teeth and his were perfect after a year or so. so i dont see you having them for 2 years. also if you just got them in today they are of course going to drive you crazy. a mouth wasnt made to have metal in it. give it a couple weeks and you'll get used to them and your mouth will toughen up and they wont bother you so bad.

It takes longer to correct everything then you think. First they have to make room for your bottom teeth to stop the crowding. And then move those teeth so they are straight. While fixing the top teeth so they align right with the bottom teeth. So two years sounds about right to me.

Didn't look at pic, but standard is two years, but I've seen it take less time. If your teeth aren't that bad I'd say 1-1/2.

The most important part is, make sure you wear your retainer afterwords. I know it's a pain in the rear, but it's very important.

I wish someone had of told me this because I wore braces for a little over two years and failed to wear my retainer afterwords. All my teeth have shifted back and at 28 I have to get braces all over again.

my friends have braces and the first day you get braces there will probably be pain but you will adventually get used to them.
you will probably have to wait 1and a half to 2 years untill your braces come out :(

It depends on how fast the teeth and jaws move into place
