Hi Jen:
Yes, there are procedures that a dentist can provide to you to help with teeth sensitivity.
"Tooth sensitivity can be reduced by using a desensitizing toothpaste, applying sealants and other desensitizing ionization and filling materials including fluoride by your dentist, and decreasing the intake of acid-containing foods. Tartar control toothpastes will sometimes cause teeth to be sensitive as well as drinking diet soft drinks throughout the day. " http://health.yahoo.com/topic/oralcare/s...
They can seal the teeth with a chemical that closes the tubials of the outer layers of the teeth so that the sensitivity to air and temperature are minimized.
This application needs to be re-applied after some period of time passes as it wears off with time from brushing as well as general wear--some products that the dentist apply to the teeth last for approx. 4-6 month and others last less time. Either way, it is worth looking into. See the links I have provided to you below.
Most dental offices provide this treatment for patients with heavy recession and or generalized sensitive teeth, so remember to ask your dentist.
Sincerely, Tina
