Question: Is anybody here a dentist? The reason I ask is because I have been getting a lot of fillings lately and I want to know what exactly do they do and I have to get a root canel and what do they do to do a root canel?

A filling fills a hole left by your dentist when he or she removed the cavity. As the years go by some fillings can chip or break at the margin. It's important to replace these and prevent secondary decay. Secondary decay is decay that occurs underneath a defective filling.
Sometimes a filling is so big or there's decay close to the nerves, so a root canal treatment is necessary. A root canal treatment is when the nerve is removed from the canal inside your tooth, and the canal is "plugged up" with a non-reactive material called Gutta Percha. Then you probably need a crown to give that tooth strength.
Relax, fillings and root canals are a part of life to a dentist. Just come in there, bring an Ipod and open big for your dentist :)
don't be afraid it doesn't hurt ,you get anesthetics and they clean the "whole" and fill them with the right materials.
