Is related dental pain normal?!

Question:

Is related dental pain normal?

For a few months now (on and off) I've had toothache and my dentist decided that a crown needed to be replaced. When the crown was taken off, it seems my tooth underneath couldn't be saved, so it was extracted. My face is still sore. The tooth extracted was at the side lower jaw, but the soreness seems to be all over the side of my face as well as where the tooth was. I suspect that this could be the injections given.

Answers:

If the pain is also felt from the upper jaw then it is probably not the injection. Possibly, the extraction caused the lower teeth to shift slightly; the upper and lower teeth may no longer fit together the way they used to. Your change in your bite may be causing your teeth to hurt , your jaw muscles and possibly your TMJ to be sore .
If the pain does not settle down in a few weeks, you will need to have your bite adjusted. In the mean time, pain meds that reduce swelling may help. (ibuprofen, sodium naproxate etc)
