Does it hurt to get a filling?!

Question: Im going to the dentist soon to get a filling on a REALLY bad cavity. Theres like a hole in it and everything. So, does anyone know from personal experience if it hurts? If so, how bad does it hurt? Give me all the details! haha.

I just got one done not too long ago...same thing as you, I had a hole. They drilled off about a quarter of my tooth. I got 6 shots in my mouth over the course of the whole time. You can't feel much with that much numbing agent in you. Then they used the sand-blaster. Don't be scared by that...it's just what they call the filling. That was the worst part. I could kinda feel it. Afterwards, the right side of my face was so numb, I couldn't feel when I bit it. Also, when I smiled, only half of my mouth moved. Watch out for drool. lol

YES!

As long as you you don't wake up with stretch marks on your jaws. And lower half is numb.

Yah. They stick you with a needle.

nah, though you can not eat or talk right for a while.

Doesn't really hurt since there no blood etc, but a bad cavity will mean they have to drill out the bad bits, and that makes the tooth all numb, like an electric shock. It feels kinda weird but it doesnt hurt like what happens when you pull out a tooth. Good luck.

Yes it can hurt if the novacain doesn't work, Ive had one that I swear I felt the whole time and it was very painful, and Ive had two more that I didn't feel at all, I think it depends on how well the dentist administers the meds.

Not really. ! <3 novocaine.

Ugggghhhh not unless they enethasite first

It hurts a bit getting a filling but it hurts even worse getting a root canal. If u don't get your cavity filled than you will eventually need a root canal and that is the worst dental experience possible...Pain medicine will be required.

I'm going to be honest..YES =[

It depends on how good your dentist is.
For some of my friends, they complained on how their dentist was putting too much pressure, and for me it wasn't so bad, but there were quick bolts of pain (not intense though).
I wouldn't be too worried about it though, it's just a filling.

Usually they give you a numbing medication and that can pinch a bit. Other than that it depends on how close they are drilling to a nerve. You can take it though.

when they did mine it did not hurt a bit...

hope you have a good dentist

goodluck!

the only part that hurts a little is the sting from the novacaine shot(s). it's not that bad. some dentists use no2 instead, so you might want to ask about that.

It doesn't really hurt if you have a decent dentist. It takes my dentist about 5 or 10 min. for my dentist to put my filling in. But if it's a really bad cavity, it might hurt a little.

OMG I hate dentist. I had to get a filling on a cavity and at first the drilling was okay and then he went deeper into the tooth. i cried because it hurts sooo much. But by the time i got home I was okay.

Modern dentistry has eliminated 99.9% of the pain so you will feel nothing regardless of what others say here.

no it don't . it is a little intimidateing when they give you a shot to numb your mouth . so you don't feel anything .

omg i had the same issue. i thought it would be painful but i was completely wrong. for me its so comterting and it didnt hurt me why would it hurt you?

Depends where it is. I think the front teeth hurt the freakin worst. The back ones arent so bad, they shoot you up w/ novocaine anyway, shots up front hurt too.

There's a hole in it? Thats what a cavity is. . .

depends, ive seen a lot of dentists
so me will hurt like hell
others will pinch at a very uncomfortable degree
and (although unlikey... crazy dentist i got) they wont even use a needle and you wont feel a thing... hes 60 and plays wow.. its funny but a great dentist

Haha dont worry about, if your filling is that deep then they will probably use a good amount of novacaine to numb your mouth. you wont feel a thing trust me. the worst part about it is thinking about how much its going to hurt and know you dont have to worry anymore.

kinda when give you a shot to numb the pain.

when i got mine the numbing wore off so i had to get another one.

most dentists use freezing so the actual filling does not hurt...however depending on where you get the needle for the freezing that can be a bit painful...as a child I had a cavity inbetween my front teeth and the needle in that part of my gums hurt more then any other needle I've had.

No, it doesn't hurt. I've had four. After I had to have one refilled, I was awake and it only tool a few minutes and was painless.

as long as they freeze your mouth good enough, you hardly don't feel anything aside from the needle(s) used for the freezing. if you feel pain after freezing, speak up and the doc should give you more

It hurts but it doesnt hurt for long.

the only thing that hurts is when they first shoot the novecaine into your gums then the rest you can't feel. you can tell they're doing something but you cant feel anything

It really hurts, i had to get 4! Trust me it will hurt ALOT!
gl

no. it doesn't hurt a bit! i got it 1000 times! they numb ur mouth so u cant feel anything
