Wisdom teeth and braces?!

Question:

Wisdom teeth and braces?

I'm 17, and I've just now finally talked my parents into getting braces for me. And a few days after they finally agreed, my wisdom teeth have started to come it. My mouth is very crowded as is it, so I know I'm going to have to get them pulled before I can get braces, but I want to know how long it will take my wisdom teeth to come out enough to be pulled, and how long after they are pulled I should wait to get braces. Right now my jaw hurts when I open it too far (i can barely open my mouth an inch) and I can feel the teeth through the gums, but they aren't pokey yet.... does anyone know? Any answers will be greatly appreciated!

Answers:

You can get them extracted right now if you want. Go to an oral surgeon instead of a regular dentist though. They will cut through the gums and pull them out. After your mouth heals you can get braces whenever you want. and no, 17 is not too young an age, wisdom teeth extraction has to do with the space available in your mouth, not your age. If there is no space back there behind your molars, then I recommend getting them extracted, but only an orthodontist or dentist can tell you if there is enough space back there for them to come in.
Hope that helps!
