Help help help help!!!!?

so yesterday afternoon i got braces and an expander and it hurts really badly ...but the bad thing is that for some reason i cant swallow pills because the expander doesnt touch the roof of my mouth so im still having trouble swallowing/ drinking anything becuase im used to swallowing my touching the roof of my mouth. my question is how long does this hurt for?? and how long do you talk differently?? can i do anything for my braces because they are like cutting up my inner cheeks and lips and it hurts soooooo bad!! and what pain reliever works best?? thanks
and i have three springs on my wire...2 on bottom one on top but i dont know if that helps

Yes it will hurt for the first week or so, but after that it will feel normal again. I'm sorry the braces are cutting up your lips, you can get wax from the dentist, or just tough it out. The gums just need time to thicken themselves against the metal braces. Its kind of like getting a callous on your hand, it will be thicker, and you won't even notice the presence of the braces. As for the swallowing, liquid medicine would work, or just cutting up the pill into smaller bits to make it easier to swallow with water. Usually with an expander its tough to speak normally again, because your tongue can't touch the roof of your mouth, so just be patient and adjust. Practicing speaking will actually help speed up the process. As for pain relievers, nothing will be perfect, because you are actually moving the roots of your teeth around your jaw, so it will still hurt when you chew, but advil works best to stop the throbbing pain.
