Baking soda and peroxide??!

Question: I use 3% hydrogen peroxide at least twice a day as mouth wash to whiten my teeth. this works great and is perfectly healthy for teeth. [because its 3% not 6% or more thats when its damaging] but I was wondering how often you can use baking soda on your teeth. I was thinking of stop using tooth paste and just brush with baking soda everyday? is this possible, or horrible to do? is baking soda harmful at all for daily use like this? or should I just use whitening tooth paste daily for brushing and do my peroxide thing daily. and baking soda brush like once or twice a week?

and also what is the best teeth whitening toothpaste?

I would continual what you are doing if we can drink baking soda as a laxitive then it cannot be harmful...I woulduse all three peroxide/baking soda in the morning, peroxide at noon, and regular toothpaste at night to clean away leftover baking soda, since the main 2 are nasty I like to mix the three in a reuseable tube pour it on the brush and smile.....LOL..Blessings Yahoo

My grandma is 97 years old and has never brushed her teeth with anything other than straight baking soda. Has never had a cavity.

My dentist does not advise using baking soda, as it will wear away the enamel on your teeth. You should also check with your doctor to ensure it is safe to continue using hydrogen peroxide while you are pregnant.
Colgate makes an all purpose whitening gel that seems good, but I think they are all the same.

Well, you could get toothpaste made by the same company that baking soda is made from. Some dif. kinds I that you could try are Arm and hammer and
Sensodyne Anticavity. Arm & Hammer Multi-Benefit Peroxicare toothpaste is recommended. For more look @

When used gently and carefully it can be used as a toothpaste. Most patients tend to scrub their teeth which can cause damage to the tender gingival tissue causing recession and hypersensitivity. Just use caution, always floss and brush gently using a soft tooth brush. If any redness or soreness of the tissue appears, discontinue use and contact your dentist if it doesn't improve in a day or two. Mixing the baking soda with peroxide isn't advised since used incorrectly, it can burn your tissue beyond healing.

Additional information: No baking soda doesn't eat the enamel away, it is abrasive and can cause damage, especially to the tender tissue by literally scrubbing it off causing recession and then dental erosion to develop, cutting into the softer cementum and dentin of the tooth.
