Power chains?!


Question: after they put power chains on due they keep putting them on at every adjustment or go back to rubberbands ? wouldn't teeth move back to where they were at ? chains was to close gaps

Like you said, powerchain is used to close spaces, so they'll likely be replaced at each visit until your spaces are completely closed (or at least until they're closed as much as the orthodontist wants). Even after that, you'll probably have powerchain in place to make sure the spaces don't reappear. Sometimes in our office, we'll switch to steel lacing to keep spaces closed instead because it's easier to keep clean than powerchain.

Patients sometimes fear powerchain because it tends to make you sore for a few days. The good news is that, as your spaces close, powerchain doesn't have to stretch as far and so it doesn't apply as much force...meaning you can expect it to hurt less at each subsequent visit. :)
