Will braces fix my uneven gumline?!
Question: I have crowded teeth and uneven gumline. As a kid my oral hygiene was never a concern until I came to Canada. Now I'm concerned with my gums and how it's not even. Does this mean I have recession? Or is my uneven gumline a result of my crowding? Will my gums improve if I get braces?

In some cases an overall uneven gumline is caused by crowded teeth. Straightening them brings the gum line level. This is assuming that the gums are attatched to the same location relative to each tooth.
However if you have had much recession from gum problems after not looking after them, they will not level when you straighten, this is because the gum level would be lower down relative to the tooth to begin with.
An orthodontist would be able to tell you at the initial consultation for braces.
You may get some improvement, but most likely your gums will remain uneven. With the straightening of your teeth it may not be as noticeable. Do the braces, then re-evaluate your situation. Minor gingivoplasty (now with lasers) is pretty easy. Good Luck
