Does it hurt when they tighten your brace?!

Question: me and my friend both have to have a brace, and we were wondering if it hurts when they tighten it, and how long it actually takes. Can you also change the colour each time you go back 2 get it tightened!

it does not hurt when braces are tightened, but your mouth may be sore for a little bit, so i suggest getting a cold drink or ice cream right afterwards to relieve the soreness. also, maybe an aspirin if the soreness doesn't decrease after an hour or so.

yes, you can change the color every time, just remember to ask your orthodontist.

no it dosen't i have had them since like july

Yes you can change the colour, it doesnt hurt it just feels...well....tight! Nothing to worry about i had a brace for about 2 years and it really doesnt hurt and it takes no time at all - dont worry about it! =)

They will ache for a little while, but nothing that isn't tollerable.

no It doesnt, you can definitley feel pressure but thats all, it doesnt hurt tho. Yes you can get colours changed, every time u get them tightened :-]

ive had them for over 2 yrs and it doesnt rly hurt
well sometimes if ur teeth are moving @ but its not bad jus eat soft food if they do
and yes u do get to change the color!

yeah you can change the colour. when i get mine tighten it only heart for like a day. and it only takes like 30 mins

I had braces for 2 years. Yes, sometimes, it does hurt, but that's usually only the first couple of times because your teeth are moving a lot. And yes, I always changed my colors everytime I had them tightened! :) I hope this helped.

braces? On your teeth?

When they tighten them, it hurts a little, but it goes away after a few hours. Just a little sore, it's pulling your teeth in to the right place. But certainly nothing to agonize about. And yes, you can get new colors every time they replace the rubber band thingies, if you so choose.

they only hurt when the "elastic chains" (the colored part or elastics as we call them) are placed on your braces AS chains/linked together, and not separately, because they clasp your jaws like so to "adjust." usually the pain lasts only a few days and then after that you can eat solid food again. more often than not, it hurts too much a few hours after your brace adjustment (or tightening as you call it) that you can't chew your food. this also results to extreme reddening of the gums, looking as if they're going to explode. but this is only temporary.

this depends on your case, though, if your teeth needs a lot of moving and adjusting, there might be a need to put continuous/chained elastics on you.

yes, you can change the colors during every adjustment visit. enjoy your braces because mine's getting removed soon. :)

hi, it does hurt a bit when they tighten it but it is only a bit and it usually takes a day for it to wear off.
as for the colour, you didn't have things like that when i had braces so i don't know lol,

cosmic angel

It aches a tiny bit for the first and second day, but after that it doesn't at all...

In the beginning it kind of does for about an hour but then it doesn't hurt at all.

it depend, Some people do some don't, personal I think it was pain and it did hurt. But don't worry and yes I got my colors changed each time i went.

yes - you can change colors

yes - it hurts

your doctor will give you a "bite board" whcih you can keep with you for the rest of the day; you bite down on it each time the pain stars to anoy you

you can also take an aspirin or some Tylenol to ease the discomfort

its gone by the next morning

they stopped "tightening" braces years ago. Its the wire that actually does the straightening. It might be a little sore sometimes after an appt. What do expect? Do you expect to correct your crowded teeth that are fixed in the bone to move and straighten with zero pain? be realistic. The soreness is probably a 2.
