What's the difference between a retainer & braces?!

Question: A retainer does not straighten your teeth, it just prevents them from getting more crooked. Braces straighten your teeth.

Answers: A retainer does not straighten your teeth, it just prevents them from getting more crooked. Braces straighten your teeth.

a retainers keeps the shape of your teeth AFTER you have finished braces. Braces shift your teeth and retainers just keep them there

Braces are glued to your teeth.
Retainers are somting you get when you get your braces oof that keep your teeth straight, but you can take it off if you want.

A retainer can be taken out and braces are a more "permanent" fixture on your teeth (at least until the dentist removes them).

Braces straighten the teeth, or move them about wherever needed.

after you get your braces off, you get a retainer for a couple of months to keep them form shifting back ,

i had braces, when i was young, didn't where my retainer when i was supposed to, and am getting a second round of braces:(

Braces are what you get to fix your teeth. Retainers are used to hold the work in place.

Lol i have a retainer AND braces. A retainer is removable and made from plastic. Braces are cemented onto your teeth and are made from metal.

Braces on placed on the teeth and are semi-permanent until the dentist removes them. A retainer can be taken in and out on a daily basis.

usually you get a retainer after braces. it's clear rubberry plastic and looks like a mouth guard. it helps keep your teeth straight after you get the braces off. U usually have to wear it all the time except for when you eat. i'm not sure how long u have to wear it though.

Braces are dental appliances that are fastened to your teeth semi permanently and wired to each other. The dentist tightens the wires to put tension on certain teeth inorder to move them into better alignment. That is why you go back every couple weeks so the tension can be adjusted. Then the movements are completed and the braces are off, a removable retainer is custom made to fit your mouth and help keep the teeth from slipping back while they settle into their new positions

a retainer is a plastic plate type thing that sits on the roof of your mouth with a wire that goes over your teeth (theres ones for the bottom teeth too though)- you take it out when you eat and play sports
braces are actually the brackets that are cemented on your teeth connected by wires

Braces are "fixed" or attached to the teeth and can not be removed daily for cleaning or eating, unless you are using a tray method such as Invisalign. In which case you would need to remove them for eating and cleaning.

A retainer is used after treatment, it does exactly as it's named, it retains the teeth holding them in their corrected position. This is an appliance that is removable for cleaning and eating, unless you have a fixed retainer which is attached to the lingual or back portion of the anterior upper and lower teeth.

A retainer just keeps your teeth in place after you have gone through the braces phase.....
