Can a troubling wisdom tooth stretch your gums to expose nerve tissue at the gum!
Question:
Can a troubling wisdom tooth stretch your gums to expose nerve tissue at the gum line on molars near that wisd
om tooth? Is it possible that after having that wisdom tooth removed that the gums will expand back and cover that nerve tissue so that the edges of those molars will not be so sensitive to touch?
Answers:
The holes where the wisdom teeth use to be will close up. It takes about 2 months. For gum recession, the one at your gum line causing sensitivity, no, it won't. Switching to a softer toothbrush can stop it from receeding more. It can come back slightly but not as it was before. It's hard because the gum cannot grow back to cover the bone that's exposed and eroded. I have the same problem. For the areas with more recession, she suggested I do a gum graft. Where they take gum from the roof of my mouth and place it over the recession. But for smaller spots, she just put a filling there and it doesn't look like it has receeded but helps with the sensitivity. I can't place my fingernail there anymore so now it doesn't hurt. Good luck!
