Question:

I have 4 veneers on my front teeth and need them replacing but cant afford it, can i pay nhs dentist to do it?

I got 4 veneers need replacing and havent got the £4000 to do it. Just wondering if nhs dentists do it cheaper. Has anyone had veneers done on the nhs and how much a thooth was it.

Answers:

Whether you can have your veneers replaced on the NHS depends on why they need replacing. The NHS provides only dental treatment which is necessary to secure and maintain your oral health. Therefore if the veneers need replacing simply because they no longer look as nice as they did, you definitely won't get them on the NHS. Even for other reasons, true clinical need is a grey area.

If you can find an NHS dentist who is willing to replace the veneers, the cost would be £194 for as many as clinically need replacing - this may not be all four. You may have to wait awhile before the dentist can justify doing the others, and then pay again, or you may have to have some replaced privately.

Also, be warned that the materials and workmanship that can be afforded by the NHS fee (the veneers are made of porcelain by a technician in a laboratory) are often no where near as good as that which can be afforded by a private fee. The end result may therefore be less aesthetically good if done on the NHS.

£4000 sounds extremely expensive for 4 private veneers though. I personally currently charge around £200 per tooth for private veneers and get excellent cosmetic finishes. Your best bet may simply be to look around for a dentist who will give you a much more reasonable quote for doing the work privately.
