Bone on the roof of my mouth got pushed back?!

Question:

Bone on the roof of my mouth got pushed back?

There is this bone on both sides of my mouth on the roof located behind the back molars. On the right side of my mouth this bone got pushed back causing my molar to stick back and outward. It pretty much changed the composition of my teeth as they all slightly shifted.

My question first of all is what is this bone called? And second of all can a surgeon fix this problem? Lastly is this causing any damage to my teeth? This is causing terrible discomfort and I've been afraid to see a dentist or doctor about this. Please help.

Answers:

The alveolar process of the maxilla holds the upper teeth, and is referred to as the maxillary arch. The alveolar process is the thickened ridge of bone that contains the tooth sockets on bones that bear teeth. It is also referred to as the alveolar bone.

What caused this bone to all of a sudden protrude?

A surgeon can most likely fix it. My best advice to you, would be to go to the dentist for an exam. Just an exam. They are relatively inexpensive, and there is no pain to you. They will take a few radiographs (x-rays) and examine the teeth and bone in your mouth, and explain to you the problem. If it is something they can easily correct, they will explain the procedure and cost. If it's not something they can fix, they will refer you to an oral surgeon, who will do the same. Examine, and determine how to correct the problem. Nothing will be done to correct the problem without your permission, so there is really nothing to be scared of. You mouth one of the most important parts of your body. You should take care of it!
Hope this helps.
