Do Root Canals Hurt Even When A Person is Numbed Up?!
Question: I'm not having one or anything, i'm just curious. I hear they are painful but is that only after it is over with and you are no longer numb? Or is it painful during?
I have had cavities before and the local anesthetic took care of any pain, so i wonder why people would fear them so much.

Having a root canal done, and I've had 4 within the last year did not hurt at all. I couldn't believe how painless it was. No kidding. Years ago a root canal took 3 visits or more. Today, in my case they took about 20 minutes a piece with absolutely no pain. I think people like the attention of telling a story that includes pain.
nope
No. During the procedure you won't feel anything. The novocaine they use will prevent any pain sensation to get to your brain. You will be numb afterwards for about 2-3 hours. You'll feel little sore, maybe some swelling, but that's it. Some Motrin will take care of anything afterwards.
Most ppl have feared it b/c it's why they need a root canal, not the procedure. Most ppl who need them had decayed teeth and the teeth really hurt. And when ppl think root canal, they associated it with the pain before the procedure not afterwards.
