Diffrence between orthodontist and dentist?!
Question:
Diffrence between orthodontist and dentist?
What's the diffrence between an orthodontist and dentist? so this means i have to go to a TOTALLY other place to ask for braces, and NOT my dentist?? Aggh confusion!
Answers:
Yes, they are totally different. That is like comparing apples and oranges. To become an Orthodontist, you have to do additional 2-3 years of specialty program after dental school. The competition to get into Ortho school is extremely tough. I used to on the Orthodontic residency admission board and for 4 seat, we used to screen about 400 applications. Yes, some general dentists do put braces but I have seen some nightmarish results in my Orthodontic office. I wish American Dental Association, restricts general dentists from doing half assed Orthodontic treatment. They think it is easy to straighten teeth but it is not. If I sound mad at the thought of general dentist doing braces, you bet I am. In my humble opinion, Orthodontics is more than straightening just the front 6 teeth. An Orthodontist is trained to make sure there is best possible function and esthetics.
Do yourself a favor, go to an Orthodontist and not a general dentist posing as an Orthodontist. You can contact me and I will let you know a top notch Orthodontist in your area. Hope that helps. Thank you.
