Is nitrous Oxide safe during pregnancy?!

Question: I am 22 weeks along and getting my teeth cleaned here in a couple weeks. I am deathly afraid of dentists and needles and I am afraid I may have a cavity. My friend said that she was given nitrous oxide during her 5-6 months of pregnancy when they had to do a filling and pull one of her teeth and her ob said it was okay. Babyzone also says its okay but another webpage said to limit or avoid it? Has anyone else had Nitrous Oxide during pregnancy do any dentists on here or assistance know if it is safe to use during pregnancy if it has to be done???

No!
Dental professionals aren't even allowed to be around it when pregnant.
You can get your teeth cleaned but I would avoid the N20. I'm very surprised your friend was given this, but this is what I was taught years ago and many things change over the years. We never would take xrays on anyone pregnant...now they allow that too. If it were me....I'd suck it up and just get the cleaning because that is good to do while pregnant...just not with N20.

Seriously, it is better to avoid any pharmaceutical that you can while pregnant.
You aren't pregnant that long, the teeth cleaning can surely wait. Why risk it?

In my opinion, up to the second trimester is the best time to do something like that, especially since dental treatment is important. Women with dental disease have a higher risk of preterm labor.

Hope this is usefull :)

It is okay to use nitrous oxide during pregnancy if used with certain amount of oxygen.

I say definitely NO! Dental professionals can't even be around nitrous. I'm a hygienist and have worked with several pregnant hygienists and I get ALL their nitrous patients. It's not safe for them to even be near it. It can cause spontaneous abortion (miscarriage). I wouldn't run the risk to your baby--it's not worth it for a 30 minute high. You need to stay current on your cleanings though. Pregnancy gingivitis is common because of the change in hormones in pregnant women. Just tough out your cleaning. They aren't that bad and only take an hour or less. It will keep you and your baby healthy. Good luck

I wouldn't have nitrous for a cleaning. When I was pregnant the dentist I worked for didn't even want me in the office when a patient was using it for their procedure. Our office recommends to have your teeth cleaned during pregnancy. Its better for you and the baby for you to stay healthy.
