If they have a major problem, like crossbite, where any of the upper teeth fit to the inside of the lower teeth when your child bites down, it needs to be fixed ASAP to prevent growth problems. Also a very constricted palate could be addressed early.
If there is nothing major wrong, you would be better off to wait until all of their permanent teeth are in.
If in doubt, take your child to an orthodontist to get an opinion. And it never hurts to get a second opinion.
