How long should my mouth hurt after having all four wisdom teeth pulled?!

Question:

How long should my mouth hurt after having all four wisdom teeth pulled?

I had them in (all came in straight with good roots) for 8 years, but had them pulled exactly a week ago. Also, the dentist accidently nicked my jawbone a little. I feel better than I did a week ago, thankfully, but I thought I'd be completely fine by now. How long should the pain last or at what point should I call the dentist to ask if it's normal??

Answers:

I had pain for about 2 weeks after having all mine out. My face was swollen for a while as well. I took codeine for the pain which my dentist prescribed.
At the time lots of people found it hard to believe I was feeling ill for that long, but I really was. I mean it is surgery. So it's going to take a while to heal.
If there's unusual pain, like where he nicked your jawbone then call right away about it. Also, if he hasn't given you anything for pain, call and ask for something.
Really, the dentist should check after around two weeks how it is healing anyway.
