I am having a wisdom tooth pulled in the morning, will they give me gas or somet!

Question: The dentist said that the tooth was impacted and pushing against my other teeth. I am so worried that I am going to be in a lot of pain. I was wondering if they would give me gas or something so that I dont real any pain??? Also, will they give pain meds after its done??? Any advice would be great...thanks!

well usually when you have wisdom teeth removed you are put too sleep, so yes you will be gassed and then usually your face will swell up after wards

novicane. and gas. and this numbing stuff.
none after yer done though.

My buddy had impacted wisdom teeth and they knocked him out completely. He got all 4 pulled at once though...and they did give him pain meds for afterwards.

They'll give you Novacaine, but if you're squeamish about the shot, they'll give you gas first IF THEY HAVE IT. This is important. Once you get out of pediatric dentistry, some practices don't have gas. You might want to make sure.

Can't answer as to the pain meds. I would think they'd give you antibiotics, but I'm not sure. I've never had to have that procedure done.

I am a huge baby when it comes to dentists. When I had my wisdom tooth removed he gave me novacaine. Lots and lots of novacaine. Gas will relax you, but it will not numb the pain.

He will probably write you a prescription for pain meds, but I didn't even use any. Tylenol worked fine.

The anticipation is far worse than the actual procedure. Good luck!

they'll give u gas or a local anesthetic... like novocane... it'll numb u up.... u won't feel most of the procedure.
But .. afterwards like the next few days ur gums will swell and it may be painfull. It lasts only afew days... he probably will prescribe a painkiller or he'll give u his own... like advil or tylenol. But u should be fine in less than a week.... no worries

no,
you will not get gassed. if u were gassed then u might swallow and choke on the water they use to clean ur teeth with but they will freeze your mouth, yes im sorry to say you will feel pain but its fine, because they to give u pain killers after and it gets rid of the pain, also when i get something done to my teeth i think about something that makes me happy or i close my eyes and make a movie in my head of something funny thats happend to me... a little weird i know but it works!

The doc may give you gas if you're a freaked-out patient, but in my case he just gave me large doses of local anesthetic, injecting right into the gums. That was the painful part, because in 20 minutes I couldn't feel anything, not the drilling, not the pulling, not the stitching. My whole mouth felt like it didn't belong to me because it was too numb. I did want gas at first, but he didn't have it and it isn't good for your brain, anyway.

So after the procedure, the doc prescribed pain meds, and if you take a jolly dose of them you won't feel too bad. Just a dull ache/throbbing where the tooth used to be. There's some bleeding, too, but just stay still, apply hot/cold packs alternately, watch TV, and sleep with your head as upright as possible. Don't worry, if the tooth was impacted then your doctor just saved you a ton of trouble and pain. And he'll probably tell you what to do.

Good luck, and take care!

It depends on the dentist.

They'll numb you up really well, and may also provide nitrous oxide.

It's very rare these days to completely anesthetize someone for oral surgery; it's too dangerous.

Yes, you'll get plenty of pain meds.

Usually they give you gas before they give you the anesthetic, the gas is to clam you a little before getting stuck with a needle. I'm not afraid of needles so I prefer no gas. Most likely, you will be asleep while they are pulling it and you will go home with pain meds. My recommendation is if it says take it ever 4 hours, then take it every 4 hours, that way you don't give yourself any time to start hurting. It's not as bad as you think it will be. All four of mine were impacted and I had them all done at the same time.

I just had this done for the same reason. They should give you gas and Novocaine. The gas will make you feel like you have had a few drinks. You can still see and you still have full control of yourself but you just don't feel as much. On top of that they will numb up the part of your mouth they are working on so you should feel no pain. The operation can be awkward as people working in your mouth can be but it is the easiest part of the procedure. Afterward you will probably be prescribed Ibuprofen and an anti inflammatory. Use an ice pack to reduce the swelling and follow all the instructions from the doctor afterward.
