a friends daughter broke her front tooth and the dentist glued it back on but she is just nine, so will the live tooth outgrow the piece that was re-attached

The visible portion (crown) of the teeth are completely formed before they erupt (start to enter the mouth). So in this sense, they really do not technically grow. However, they may appear to be growing as they erupt, until they have reached their final orientation. (Also note that during this time the root portion is still forming, so this part could be considered to be growing, but as far as the question is concerned... the visible portion of the tooth will not grow in size).
For this reason, the tooth will not "outgrow" the restoration that the dentist placed. However, there is a slight chance that if the tooth is still moving into place that the filling may be slightly larger or smaller than need be in comparison to the neighboring teeth once they have all reached their final position.
