OMG. I just got braces on Friday. In my opinion, I would recommend you eat everything you want now before you get braces.

- Braces doesnt hurt when they are putting the wires & bracket on you. After a couple of hours, your teeth might start hurting. THE SECOND day is the WORST. that is where your teeth hurts so badly. The 3rd day is okay. & day after day it gets better.

First they would clean your teeth & then some paste on your teeth. After that they wipe it off & then they would put the glue on it. & then put brackets on one by one. Bracket on & then this machine that has blue light, then that machine near your bracket so it could stay there. I think it keeps the bracket not falling off. They do that OVER & OVER AGAIN. & THEN finally, put the wire on & you pick a color.

Don't put just anything in your mouth. Some objects & foods can loosen or break appliances. So think about these tips before you take a bite:
Slice fresh vegetables, fruits & other hard-to-chew foods before eating them.
Aviod hard foods like popcorn, nuts, or corn chips. Dont chew on ice.
Dont eat sticky foods like gum, caramel, taffy & gummy candy.
Cut down on sugary foods and soft drinks. If you do have them, brush your teeth right after.
Dont chew or bite objects such as pens, pencils, crayons & fingernails

You could still play sports w/ braces

they dont hurt they kinda just glue them on.....i still ate everything like gum and all that i didnt have a problem although they advise you not too.......they cut up your lip until you get use to them but they willl give you wax for that and your jaw wil be sore for about a week until you get use to the tight feeling........GOOD LUCK!

im 14 and have had braces for a year. they hurt worst when you first get them on then a bit when you get them tigtened. eventually you will probably have to wear elastics and if oyu dont wear those for a long time then you do it hurts a lot!

im 15 too umm i have braces they hurt the first week and u should eat soup mashed potatoes apple sauce ice cream .... really soft stuff u can definetly play sports but u may want to get a mouth protector thing so ur brackets dont break ... good luck its hurts but just rinse with salt water and use orajel ... it helps i use it it hurts when u tighten it but only the first 2 days
dont worry at least ull have nicer teeth soon

Your teeth will hurt at first because the braces are moving your teeth. Your orthodontist will tell you what you can eat and if you can play sports. I know one thing - don't chew gum or other sticky foods.

They don't "hurt" but your teeth and gums may be a little sore for the first few days. You can take some Ibuprofen or Tylenol to help. You may also want to eat soft foods for the first day or so.

You won't have a lot of food restrictions but the orthodontist will likely give you a sheet of foods you shouldn't have. This will include gum, popcorn, hard and/or sticky candies (like caramels, etc.)

You can play sports without a problem. It may be a good idea to wear a mouth guard (which you should do with or without braces). Other than that you won't have any problems.

Edit: Take some Ibuprofen or Tylenol right before your appointment. That should help with the soreness and you won't have to wait for it to start working if you are a little sore.

They feel sore for a few days, but you'll get used to it after that. You should eat soft foods the first few days until u get used to it. You can still play sports, but be careful. I used to have them. Take really good care: Brush teeth when u can after each meal, and make sure u clean them well at night.
