How deep are the stitches put in when i had my tooth extracted?!

Question:

How deep are the stitches put in when i had my tooth extracted?

I was wanting to know, where exactly does the dentist put the stitches after a wisdom extraction? Like, would he of put it deep in my holes?
My hole is open and at the very bottom i see a black thing, is that the stitches??

Answers:

As long as you don't see any bare bone exposed, the suture is doing its job and it should be fine.

Silk sutures are usually black, yes.

As GoDodgerBlue mentioned, a daily Vitamin C tablet is a good idea. Ascorbic acid is an essential component in collagen metabolism (collagen are the fibers in your gum tissue) and will indeed help your gums heal.

Good luck!
