Another Stupid dentist Question ...?!

Question: I have my Extraction At 2:30 tomorrow afternoon , lady from the office told me not to eat anything 6 hours before the Sugery , which i'm ok with. But i have 2 questions that i was not sure about. 1) is it ok to drink water in the 6 hours i'm not suppose to eat or drink , is water ok ??
2) It is Ok if I eat something before 8:30am right ? I'm always Hungry an not eating most of the day is gonna kill me , But I wanted to make sure it was ok to eat before the 6 hour time period kicked in. Will that allow enough time for the food to process thoough my body ?

I am assuming they are going to put you under? Do not drink water-- You don't want to throw up during the procedure. Sorry to sound so blunt, but when they say don't drink, then don't. It kills me too when I have those kind of procedures and you can't eat/drink. The worst kind are where you can't even have morning coffee.

No you cant drink water
Yes as long as its befor the 6 Hours start!

If you were told not to eat or drink that would mean water.

Dont eat anything in that 6 hour period. Dont drink anything etheir.

Water should be fine, just don't overdo it. Yes you can eat just before 8:30. They give you the 6 hour time limit so the food will be mostly digested out of your stomach. Sounds like you're going to be sedated. That's the way to go.

I don't know the answer for sure. I would check with the lady who told you that.

That being said, I think that you'll be okay, if you finish eating before 8:30am, because it is 6 hours.

Also, I don't understand why water wouldn't be okay. I'd drink water up till that point in time, if I were you. In fact, I'd literally drink till my belly is full, right before the surgery. This way, I won't have to drink something right after.

Once again, I'd check with the specific lady who told you that. In fact, maybe it would be good to get a second opinion from that office. Don't be afraid to press for specific details. Most people would be willing to help. Sometimes some standards are made to suit most people. Unfortunately, most people don't necessarily take the best care of themselves, and they need the standards to be simple.

Yep you can have water. But my doc said to limit it and try not to drink it if I didn't have to. The reason they don't want you to eat is just in case you were to start feeling ill from everything. So if you can hold off on that as well I would. Good luck to you!!!

If you are told not to eat or drink then dont do it.
Usually these instructions are given for general anaesthesia.

You have heard the instruction right and clear. Act upon them to be comfortable after the operation.

I had an extraction on a molar about 4 yrs ago and i went in at like 2 in the afternoon..they pulled my tooth as soon as they saw it.. they didnt worry to much about what i ate or drank. BUT... they didnt put me under... I did it WIDE awake... with numbing meds.. OMG!!....If you are going under I wouldnt advise any food MAYYYYBE a little water.. but if you are going to be awake.. and they are just going to NUMB you... I dont really think you would get much of a reaction if you have water.. GOOD LUCK! but of course that my opinion...:P

Before you have any dental surgery you should call your oral surgeon and they should be able to tell you what you can and cannot eat or drink.
Usually they recommend that you do not eat or drink anything for 8 hours. If you have to take medicine it is recommended that you take it with as little water as possible.

No eating or drinking means exactly that. Nothing. Water is not acceptable as it is still considered drinking.

6 hours is not most of the day. You will be fine. Stop being such a baby about it. Keep yourself busy.

6 hours before surgery stop eating and drinking. You will survive.
