White Filling Turned Black?!

Question:

White Filling Turned Black?

I have had a few of my white fillings turn black.

I had that happen within a few days of getting the new fillings
I ask my dentist about it and he ignored my question and changed the subject. I do not see that dentist anymore because I feel he was not doing the work right and he only wanted to get a quick buck.

But what causes white fillings to turn black?

Answers:

Is it the filling, or did you have a root canal? It is common for root canals to turn black when the root is gone, as nerves to the enamel are deadened. For white fillings to darken is rare. This is usually caused by improper mixing of the plastic/ceramic amalgam and the addition of too much hardening compound, but can be caused by secretions in the patients own mouth. The dentist's refusal to address the problem would indicate that he was not confident of his own practises, and therfore thought that it was improper mixing. I would not expect them to last unless they are very small.
