You have 4 kinds of papillae on your tongue: circumvallate, foliate, fungiform, and filliform. The ones you are referring to are the largest kind. There are usually only 6-12 on the tongue, and they're located around 2/3rds of the way back in a v-shaped row. Did you have another question about them? What they do and such?
Without looking it up, are you referring to "circumvallate papillae", the taste-bud structures on the posterior, dorsal surface of the tongue?
