I'm getting so frustrated with my dentist! Any suggestions?!

Question:

I'm getting so frustrated with my dentist! Any suggestions?

Ok, here's my story. I had 3 fillings done in March. 2 were replacement fillings and 1 was a new filling. Ever since I had these fillings, the one on the top has hurt when I bite down to eat. I went back to the dentist last week and she took an X-ray to see what the problem could be. She said that it seemed as if the roots or the tissue around the root looked aggrivated. She showed me the X-ray and I could see a spot to the side of my root that looked a little darker the the other areas. She drilled down the bite on that one tooth and for a day or two I had no more pain. Now, the pain is back and it seems as though one of the teeth on the bottom is starting to hurt too. It's not an unbearable pain, mostly just a little uncomfortable when I'm trying to eat. I have an appt in a week so that they can take another X-ray to see if the irritation has gotten better. If it's not the fillings causing this, what else could it be? Am I going to end up having to have a root canal to fix this?

I've already had these fillings filed down once. Is it possible that they need to be filed down even more?

Answers:

When doing dental fillings, especially white fillings, you might feel your teeth sensitive for a period of a few days to a few months, depending on how big it is.

What can help is using a fluoride based toothpaste like Sensodyne 3 times a day.

If a filling is high, then the dentist should grind it down, just like yours did.

You would only need a root canal if the filling is very deep, close to the nerve, or if there is an infection at the end of the root.

If your pain is not unbearable, preventing you from sleeping and functioning. I would wait, using sensodyne, and it will eventually go away. It is good to see your dentist again if more minor adjustments are needed.
