This perception goes back to WWII. American GIs were chasing British girls and noticed a lot of bad teeth. British dentistry was on a war time footing so a lot of dentistry was delayed. After WWII authors like Anthony Burgess (A Clockwork Orange) were highly critical of the British socialized medical system and perpetuated the stereotype. After the Beatles and other Brit rock groups invaded the US, the stereotype be gain to crumble. With the advent of jet travel and cheap flights, we all began to notice that we were about the same as far as teeth go. British food is still bad though.
DDS for 33 yrs now.

Years ago most Europeans never went to the dentist unless it was absolutely necessary. I think that has changed though with the younger generation.

I think its just an old stereotype. I have several friends that are English and they have very nice teeth.

Yeah that's because it's true. I stereotype Americans as having very good looking teeth.

As a dentist who has lived both in GB and Canada, I can state with authority that the Brits have the worst teeth. The system in GB is terrible, with the NHS dentists being paid so poorly for dental services that they are being driven out of the NHS system.
The private practice dentists operate an evil system of paying them so much a month just to stay on their "list" and then, if you need fillings etc, you have to pay for it.
In Canada, if you need dental work, you go to the dentist of your choice, no "lists". Yes, it is expensive, but they do a good job and seem concerned about your teeth.
I am aware of dentists in the UK who do not even have an x-ray machine in their office...the patient had to go to another town to get it done and bring back the xray to the original dentist. How terrible is that.
Yes, the Brits have the worst teeth and I do not see any Chance of it changing in the next 20 years.

are you sure you have good teeth? how can you really know for sure unless you regularly go to the dentist? do you?
