Wisdom teeth?!

Question:

Wisdom teeth?

I got my left wisdom teeth pulled on monday, and now my mouth hurts too much to eat. The dentist said to not use a straw at all because the suction could rip out the blood clots. All I've eaten in the last 48 hours was a cup of tomato soup. Any other ideas on what I can eat? I'M STARVING

Answers:

You need to get your mouth open to reduce the soreness and help you regain full function of your mouth so you can eat. Take two damp towels and heat them in the microwave, you want them hot, but no so hot as to burn your face. Place the hot compress on each side of your face (both sides even though it was only one tooth, both jaw muscles had a work out by having to hold open) letting the heat soothe the muscles, then gently open and close your mouth several times stretching wider each time you open, exercising the jaw area. This exercise can be done several times a day along with warm salt water rinses, the warmer you can do it the better. The key to healing is to reduce the soreness by getting the muscles relaxed from the surgery. After you get the soreness reduced, you can start to slowly return to your normal diet just using caution with hard, sharp or crunchy foods that could jab the extraction site causing trauma. If you still have difficulty stay with eggs, pasta, hearty soups and stews for a few days, you'll be back to normal soon. Do the exercises though, you will be amazed at the relief you will feel. Good luck with your healing!
