Whoever had experience with root planing/scaling?!

Question:

Whoever had experience with root planing/scaling?

How severe was your situation and how much did it cost for you? Did you have insurance? How was the overall experience? (Discomfort, effects (such as swelling, etc) of it after the procedure) Thanks.

Answers:

My husband had it done on his whole mouth. It cost a little under $3000 or so with insurance here in So. CA. This included the mouthwash and the toothbrush. It took 3 sessions. The 2nd and 3rd session, he was numbed up. The hygenist was really in there. She said she had to be agressive to try to prevent him from going into gum surgery. Each session took about 1 1/2 hour. Brink a mp3 player. My husband didn't like the drills at all so he put the music wayyyy up. Afterwards, he was numb and his gums were bloody. He soaked through 2 pillowcases in one night. Then it slowly stopped bleeding. His gums started to look different. Like less swollen and more pink. The instructions said your gums may look or feel a little tight as it repairs itself. Session 3 was bloody also but nothing compared to session 2. Just light bleeding, went away in a few hours. And he has to use the mouthwash for 6-8 weeks.
He said it was the best thing he ever did. He never has bad breath anymore! He can taste better and now he flosses and brushes more. It boosted his confidence. He smiles more now and less self conscious. Ask your dentist which brush to use and how to brush. He realized he was doing it all wrong. Now he has to go back every 3 months for a cleaning. His "pockets" have gotten smaller and the tartar has gone down dramatically. It looks like he got professional whitening instead of the cleaning, lol. Go for it, you'll feel great. Good luck!
