After a dentist trip?!

Question:

After a dentist trip?

I had a root canel done and after the numbness from the shot went away, I was in major pain. I couldn't even touch the tooth.
So how could it have hurt so bad when there was no longer any root in the tooth?
Yes I looked at an x-ray and there was nothing there!

Answers:

Your tooth and surrounding tissues were traumatized during the procedure, which is completely normal! The pain you are experiencing is the healing processes. Think of it this way: if you break your leg, it hurts for a while because the trauma was so severe and the bones are now trying to re-attach/regrow, which is not a painless thing for your body to do. Same thing with any major dental procedure; Your gingival and bone tissues just went through a lot of trauma, and are now trying to repair the damage. It's not necessarily the tooth that hurts, everything is connected, and it just fells like it's the tooth. Take some advil or tylenol as directed by the packaging for a few days, and the pain should go away shortly.
