Pulling the gum line down?!

Question: I just got my braces on a few days ago. My orthdontist is supposed to be really good and I should be done in about 7 months. When I was getting the braces on he said that afterwards, he will be to pull down the gum line above my crooked front teeth because although it may look normal now, it will look too high once my one crooked front tooth is aligned correctly.

MY QUESTION: What does this "pulling down the gum line" involve? Is this painful because it SOUNDS terrible.

Thank you! :o)

Chances are the dentist will apply some topical numbing anesthetic over the gun tissue and use a laser to remove what ever excess gum tissue exist. Once that is completed the tissue will be treated with medication and I suspect the dentist may provide you with an Rx for pain control, or simply suggest you take and over the counter pain med like Tylenol as an example. I wouldn't anticipate that you will have very much discomfort to deal with....I wish you well.

nice smiley...i had the same feeling when my friends dentist said it but honestly i have no idea but at this moment i know that your dentist wont do anything to hurt you on purpose.
he does it for your health, so.....don't worry he'll help you. and dont be so scared....IF IT DOES HURT IT WILL ONLY HURT A TAD!

i had the laser removal when having a crown fitted. its not painful but it kind of smells like bbq. the laser procedures dont bleed and heal very quickly so dont worry!
if your gums look normal now and your teeth move inward that would make your gums lower?
