Fixing a chipped tooth? What should I do?!

Question: Okay, so I chipped a tooth a couple a years ago, and my dentist said that it would be best if we waited until i got my braces off to fix the chip. I recently got them off, and now I have a few options for getting it fixed:

1. I can go ahead and bond the tooth, but the stuff they use to bond it wnt match the natural color of my teeth, i can get this done very soon with no wait.

2. I can wait and whiten my teeth so that the bonding will match, this will take longer, which means that I have to deal with walking around with a chipped tooth for a while and an extra cost, although it will look better. I will have to use my home whitener-thingy once a month to keep it up.

3. I can use a much cheaper comercial whitening system, like Crest WHite Strips, which will take alot longer with less effective results (but cost less) and THEN get the bonding. I will have to keep wearing whitestrips if i want the bonding to match.

What should I do? Ill take any advice!

You will have to live with the repair for the rest of your life, I cant believe the dentist would not be able to match whatever your tooth color is right now. This color is probably where the tooth will end up in a few months even if you do the whitening.

Just a quick note to say that over time the over-the-counter systems (like Crest Whitestrips) can cost more than the system supplied by your dentist because you have to "touch up" more often, which means buying another box of the strips every couple of months or so. Many people who use a dentist whitener only have to touch up every 3 to 4 months and this involves wearing your custom trays only 1 or 2 days. Of course, if you are happy with the color of your teeth now your dentist should certainly be able to match the color. Maybe a second opinion from another dentist would be helpful?
