OK..Yes he could drive after having a Root Canal, but that depends on the kind of anesthetic he was given. If he was put to sleep during the procedure he should not attempt to drive. If all he had was a local. (a specifically targeted injection in the extraction site) then he should be able to drive. Now let me tell you what he specifically shouldn't do in either case. "No Smoking" for three day's, "No" drinking from a straw for three days, "No" drinking from a pop bottle or beer can for three day's and "No" vigorous rinsing of the mouth for three day's. Any of those can dislodge the blood clot that forms in the tooth socket after the extraction and loss of that clot, due to any type of sucking pressure will lead to a "Very" uncomfortable pain issue. The tooth sockets need to maintain the blood clots for at least a week minimum. Have him apply "cold" packs on the jaw area over the extraction site to hold down swelling, Hot packs will draw blood and that will cause painful pressures,,,,use the cold packs for at least three day's. Tell him that after 24 hours he should "gently" rinse his mouth three to four times a day with a 10% salt to water mix...As for eating, "soft" is the watchword..jello, ice cream, malts and or canned liquid meals found in any pharmacy...A soft diet should be followed for three to five days to be on the safe side. I wish him well.

No, he will be fine to drive. They don't put you to sleep. Just numb the area.

Driving... No problem, unless he chose to be sedated or put under.

Eating... There's always soup and milkshakes if he has to wait a few hours...

Unless they put him out he should be fine to drive.

Soft food that isn't sticky will help protect the temporary crown.

For a root canal, they will use a local anesthesia most likely-maybe even gas. Yes, he will need someone to drive him home-even with just a local shot. He will be tired and groggy. They will tell you when he has it done how long he needs to wait to eat. Good luck and God bless.

pick him up. even if he is not on any drugs, if it his first root canal he may feel faint or drained after the procedure. people tend to feel weak after such procedures, so it is just better if somebody drives them home.

he may take the procedure very well, but wouldn't you feel better knowing he makes it home ok?

No,no driver needed. I had one done, and I drove myself. Good luck to your boyfriend

The dentist will let you know how long to wait before eating (if not, make sure to ask). If your boyfriend is getting pain relievers, you might want to think about a driver. Does he usually take pain medication (the hard stuff)? Do you think he might be disoriented or loopy after? Ask your boyfriend and he should know. Some type of pain reliever or anesthesia (to just deaden the area) is usually given during a root canal. Good Luck

After effects of a rt canal is like that for filling, the nerve is dead. Do what ever you feel like doing!! Doc W
