Had upper left wisdom tooth removed weeks ago. Found cyst. Now I have nasal cong!

Question:

Had upper left wisdom tooth removed weeks ago. Found cyst. Now I have nasal congestion on the left side.?

The congestion comes and goes. Is this the cyst blocking the nasal passage or some unrelated congestion? Also, what can be done to remedy this? What are the dangers of doing nothing about it if any?

Answers:

The upper wisdom teeth are closely related to the maxillary sinuses. These are air-filled cavities in the bone of your upper jaw. There is a hole between the sinus and the lateral wall of your nasal cavity.
When you have an upper wisdom tooth removed, there is a chance of making a hole between your tooth socket and your maxillary sinus.
You may have some postoperative infection causing sinusitis.

My advice is:
1. See the dentist who removed the tooth for you.
2. Avoid blowing your nose, as this makes the hole bigger
3. Take a degongestant such as Otrivine.
4. THE CONGESTION IN YOUR NOSE MAY BE COMPLETELY COINCIDENTAL AND THERE MAY BE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT.

If we assume you do have this hole between the socket and the sinus, and you do nothing, one of two things could happen
1. The socket may heal normally and your problems will disappear
2. The hole may stay open and you might continue to suffer problems.

I hope that I have helped you.
