i had this with a wisdom tooth, when the packing came out the dentist repacked it this happened a couple of times till it was ok, its caused by an exposed nerve. u should go back to dentist if its still painful and get it repacked.

I was told to keep packing in til it stopped bleeding. You should have been given a spare in case it starts again.

There are two types of packing, one is surgical gauze which you keep until the bleeding stops and the other is a self dissolving compound that slowly dissolves as the socket undergoes healing...you don't want to disturb that one. If bleeding doesn't cease in 24 hours you need to contact your DDS and get back to his office for an exam...By the way, do you happen to take a blood thinner such as Aspirin or other prescription medication used for that purpose ? If so check with both your DDS and MD , as a rule those meds are stopped for a short period preceding the extraction and after as well. Your MD should be in charge of that decision.

After it stops bleeding remove pad and leave it, NO rinsing, rinsing simply washes out the plug of congealed blood slowing healing. It will be ok by morning. just drink through a straw.
