Is ultrasonic scaling worth the money?

I just went to a brand new dentist and I'm not sure I trust him. He says I might need to have ultrasonic scaling done and my insurance won't cover it. It will cost around $200. My old dentist never mentioned this technique. I also had a watch a video on this technique which makes me wonder about his motives...

I just had my teeth cleaned at my periodontist's office, and they did ultrasonic scaling. The visit was $80 and covered by my dental insurance. It was well worth it to me as it's easier, faster, and far less uncomfortable than hand scaling. You might call a couple of other dentists in your area and check their fees to compare. Good luck.
