Sharp tooth pain! Please help!?!

Question: My front right tooth was chipped almost in half this summer by a baseball bat and was repaired within three days with a bit of bonding. However, the dentist told me that i was millimeters away from the nerve and i was really lucky i didn't need a root canal etc etc
So yesterday I go back to my dentist for a cleaning and they floss right around where the bonding meets the tooth and it got caught for a second but she pulled the floss our and reassured me that nothing she could do would injure my tooth. I also received a fluoride treatment painted onto all my teeth. About three hours ago i started to have this horrible sharp pain that shoots up my tooth and into my gum region whenever i breathe in, eat something hot, or even touch it. I wanna know what's going on! please help me understand why my mouth is hurting

>>>Sorry to tell you this but it sounds like you DO need a Root Canal>>>DID the Dr.take any X-Rays yesterday when you got your cleaning??? They may have loosened your bonding when they flossed and the hot and cold pain you speak of sounds like you need to go back and get the Root Canal<<sorry,,,,Good Luck

the tooth has probably split through. every time you put pressure on it the loose bit is jabbing into your upper gum. ask to get some more xrys done. and just go back to your dentist!!
could just be healing. the flossing would have nothing to do with it. just an edge of the bonding that wasn't smoothed properly!
fluoride is great and also would do nothing!!

I do think that the flossing may have chipped away a little space. Traumatized teeth do tend to need root canals. And you may need a crown too. I do think you'll have to go back. Hopefully you'll just need a patch or re-bonding.
