Okay - you have several questions going on here.

To start with - you've said they are going to use anesthesia ... the type that will you groggy for a while. So to the question, "Will it hurt?" The answer is no. If you are awake, you'll feel what is called pressure - like when you take a finger and push on a hard spot.

Without knowing exactly what type of anesthesia they are going to use ... I can't answer how long you'll be "dumb". Fair to guess that you won't be giving, or attending, any parties that day. Make plans to "chill out".

Your face should look just fine. If you actually follow the advise the staff give you about what NOT to do .... no spitting, no sucking on a straw, no mouthwash - and so on .... you shouldn't have any drama. Also - if you get a cheap bag of frozen peas and wrap them in a towel - it makes a good cold compress to put on your jaw when you get home.

Pain afterwards .... it sure won't be like stubbing your toe. Right were your jaw hings will probably be tender - maybe a little stiff on the first day, and possibly the second day too. Your tongue will want to poke at were your dentist worked .... try not to let it play there. Let it rest.

Oh - and put a towel on your pillow before you lay down. You'll probably drool when you sleep that first day. Like I said - don't plan on going to any parties.

People luv to tell horror stories about going to the dentist. Before you go there make sure you've cleaned (brushed/flossed) your teeth. Clean is always a good place to start this story. Have someone go with you if you can so they can listen to the after care instructions with you. If you're nervous or scared ... chances of you not hearing or remembering everything goes up. Afterwards - chill and take care of yourself.

I just had mine out a few months ago - all four of them. i was so nervous before hand, but honestly, it was no big deal! you fall right to sleep as soon as you get in the chair, and when you wake up, all your teeth are gone. i felt like i was out for like a minute. they gave me pain killers, so i took those, and felt fine. i never really felt pain since i kept taking the pain pills every 6 hours like they told me to. the only thing i kind of felt a few days later was a little bit of soreness on my jaw, but it wasn't that bad. and the only other bad thing for me was that after i woke up from the anesthesia, i felt nasueas and actually ended up puking a couple times when i got home that day. but after that i was all good. it sucks not being able to eat solid foods for a few days, i just ate applesauce, pudding, mashed potatoes, etc. and my face was only a little bit swollen. it went down in a few days. so you have nothing to worry about, you'll be fine!!

take your pain pills as directed this is the most important advice anyone could give you. the procedure depends on your doctor and also you everybody is different.my son had it and he complained about having to eat mashed potatoes and cream of wheat. my sister had it done and she kept going to the hospital because of some problems after surgery.make sure your have an ice bag this will help the swelling.
